About

One thing that I’ve had many people say about me is I tend to be picky.  Sometimes it’s a good thing (when deciding where to move to), and sometimes, it’s a bad thing (when deciding what to wear for the day).  Most of the time, I think it’s a good thing.  Along with the pickiness comes the need to justify my pickiness, ie to research the heck out of things.  So when I found out I was pregnant back in 2014, this went into overdrive.  Suddenly there were all these factors I had to decide on when bringing this whole new person into the world.  From nanny versus daycare, to what kind of stroller, to how to start feeding solid foods, there was a whole new world of things to research and decide on.  Along the way, I’ve had friends of mine from time to time compliment me on my choices, and at the same time asking how I came to that decision/found said item.  And that is how this blog came about.

A little more about myself: I was born and raised in Southern California, where I went to college and met my husband.  We got married right after we graduated from college in 2004, then spent the next seven years with him being active-duty in the United States Army.  During that time, I moved to New York City (not an Army move), then to Germany (Army move and where we got our dog), and Georgia (Army move).  While stationed in Georgia, my husband and I decided to move back to New York City, but we decided that I move before he deployed to Afghanistan.  He spent the next year in the Middle East, while I moved back to New York City with our German Shepherd, Goosie.  During this year, we bought an apartment, thus cementing our stay in the big city. The hubby came back to the States in Fall of 2011 and moved to NYC in Spring of 2012 and has been here ever since!

But why New York City?  Especially after having been a military spouse and having lived in such a variety of places?  The simple answer is a childhood dream.  As a little girl, I always wanted to work with books in any way, shape or form.  It would be preferable if I were writing them (that I’m still working on), but if I weren’t, I wanted to be involved somehow.  In college, I majored in Creative Writing, and not quite a year after I graduated (during which the hubby was doing Army stuff), I moved to New York City, where all the big publishing houses and many smaller ones live.  I managed to get a job relatively quickly and worked until the hubby told me near the end of his first Army assignment, that we would be moving to Germany.  We spent the next three years in Germany, where, as I mentioned, we got our dog, and spent a lot of time drinking wine and beer (it’s cheaper than soda over there!).  We then moved to Georgia before (finally!) moving back to New York City, where I got back into the publishing world, and now work in children’s books, which is super helpful when you have a toddler.

So now I live in New York City with the hubby, who works in IT.  We live in a one-bedroom apartment, which is actually pretty spacious (I swear!), on the Upper East Side with our dog, Goosie.  In February of 2015, our daughter, P, was born.

As I mentioned, I can be super picky and also like to know why I’m being picky, which is why I named this blog The Methodical Manhattan Mom.  I’m not the type of person to just like or do something just because of a feeling I get; I like to figure out why I’m getting that particular feeling (yeah, I’m just loads of fun!).   Also, I think living in New York is quite different than a lot of other places I’ve lived, so the blog will be more geared towards city living (but that doesn’t mean you can’t stay and read if you’re not in New York City!).  But anyways, come, sit, stay awhile.  And welcome!
